17/03/2022 (Agence Europe) – The distribution of new cases in the European Parliament Committee on Civil Liberties continues to be clarified. Two sources told EUROPE on Thursday 17 March that the ECR group will be responsible for the regulation of asylum and migration in situations of instrumentalisation. The regulation, which was proposed in December at the same time as the reform of the Schengen Borders Code - attributed to the S&D group and French MEP Sylvie Guillaume (see EUROPE 12853/1) - provides for, among other things, longer deadlines for the registration of asylum applications of four weeks, derogations from the ‘return’ directive and the possibility of not granting the same material conditions to these people. The Left group is inheriting the work on the exceptional measures taken to assist Poland, Lithuania and Latvia in the aftermath of the instrumentalisation of migrants from Belarus. (SP)
