Nine MEPs from the S&D, Greens/EFA and The Left groups have sent a letter to the European Commission on Monday 21 February calling on it to report “by the end of March 2022 at the latest” on the current status of the transposition of the new rules of the mobility package regarding access to the profession and cabotage within Member States (see EUROPE 12833/32).
The nine signatories, including the chair of the European Parliament ‘transport’ committee, Karima Delli, (Greens/EFA, France), feel it is a shame that despite the Commission’s “efforts”, many Member States do not have “the means – and in some cases the political will – to enforce those legal provisions that are already in force”.
MEPs have noted that the lack of enforcement encourages “fraud and social dumping”, whereas the new rules are intended to bring about “fair competition” and an “improvement in wages and working conditions for drivers”.
Furthermore, the letter calls on Member States to adopt “concrete plans” to strengthen both their means and capacities for control, and to inform the European Commission of their actions.
Finally, these nine members of the European Parliament are asking the Commission to come before Parliament, within the same timeframe, and put forward measures to remedy any delays in transposition. (Original version in French by Thomas Mangin)
