The EU Council adopted, on Monday 21 February, new sanctions against 22 Myanmar individuals and 4 entities. This is the fourth set of sanctions since 1 February 2021 (see EUROPE 12745/2). The EU is “deeply concerned about the continuing escalation of violence in Myanmar”.
Those targeted include government ministers, a member of the State Administration Board, members of the Union Election Commission and the armed forces. The entities are private or state-owned companies that provide resources to the armed forces.
The decision expands the list of individuals subject to sanctions in Myanmar to 65 and the number of targeted entities to 10. It provides for the freezing of their assets in the EU, a ban on making funds available to the entities and persons concerned and a ban on their travel to the EU.
These new measures apply immediately. See the implementing regulation: https://aeur.eu/f/f6 (Original version in French by Léa Marchal)
