The European Commission has launched a targeted public consultation on a new approach to retail financial investments from 21 February to 21 March.
The EU institution is preparing a new strategy for retail investment that will aim to develop a comprehensive approach to investor protection.
In a previous consultation conducted in 2021 (see EUROPE 12718/31), many stakeholders called for a simpler, more customer-focused approach to identifying the needs and limitations of retail investors.
This consultation therefore aims to improve the suitability and appropriateness assessments for defining the profile of a retail investor. In particular, a new investor-centred assessment is being tested, which would identify the key elements of an individual investment plan and which financial actor would be competent to develop this plan.
