11/05/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 11 May, the European Commission launched a public consultation to prepare its future retail investment strategy, expected in the first half of 2022 and announced in its Capital Markets Union Action Plan (see EUROPE 12562/9). According to the roadmap published in April by the European Commission, the strategy will aim to ensure that retail investors can take full advantage of capital markets and that rules are consistent across legal instruments (see EUROPE 12703/12). The European Commission is particularly interested in hearing views on how to improve the protection of retail investors. The strategy should also include an assessment of the rules in the area of incentives and disclosures, along with a review of the existing investor categorisation.
