Vulnerable people in the Sahel and Central African countries will benefit from 210 million euros in EU humanitarian aid this year, the European Commission announced on Tuesday 11 May.
For the Sahel, these funds will be distributed as follows: 35.5 million euros for Chad, 32.3 million euros for Niger, 31.9 million euros for Mali, 24.3 million euros for Burkina Faso and 10 million euros for Mauritania.
In Central Africa, Nigeria will receive 37 million euros, the Central African Republic 21.5 million euros and Cameroon 17.5 million euros.
These funds will finance: - vital assistance to people affected by armed conflict and to communities hosting people who have had to flee; - protection of vulnerable persons; - measures to combat food crises and severe acute malnutrition in children under 5; - the provision of basic services such as health care and education for children; - measures to strengthen community preparedness for crises such as mass population displacement or recurrent food or climate crises.
