11/05/2021 (Agence Europe) – In a press release published on Monday 10 May, the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) represented by Vasco Cordeiro, First Vice-President of the Commission for Social Policy, Education, Employment, Research and Culture (SEDEC), deplored the fact that the 8 May declaration of the Porto Social Summit lacks reference to the role of local and regional governments (see EUROPE 12715/1). Mr Cordeiro noted that the implementation of the European Pillar of Social Rights cannot succeed without the local and regional authorities. “This worrying trend needs to change, also in view of the Conference on the Future of Europe”, he said. The CoR had adopted an opinion on the implementation of this pillar at the request of the Portuguese Presidency of the EU Council. To view the opinion: https://bit.ly/3eCfzLS (PH)
