European Parliament's Committee on Transport rejects amendments to ‘Mobility Package I’

The Committee on Transport and Tourism’s (TRAN) second reading vote on the controversial ‘Mobility Package I’ took place, as announced, on Monday 8 June in the European Parliament.

The final vote was still in progress as we went to press. However, the TRAN Committee Chair, Karima Delli, had announced the result of the votes on the 82 amendments tabled (see EUROPE 12489/12).

None of the 37 amendments to the text on the posting of lorry drivers, the 16 amendments to the section on rest periods and tachographs, or even the 29 amendments to the text on cabotage and market access were adopted.

The TRAN Committee has therefore followed the recommendations of the three rapporteurs who, last April, had insisted that the three texts be supported as they stand (see EUROPE 12477/18).

Whatever the outcome of the final vote in the Committee on Transport, the texts will be put to a vote by all MEPs in July.

They're running out of time. The European Parliament has 3 months from the adoption of the EU Council's position last April (see EUROPE 12463/31) to take a decision. The latter will come into force if the deadline is not met. (Original version in French by Agathe Cherki)
