The European Commission is not satisfied with the Polish authorities’ response regarding compliance with the Court of Justice’s order of 8 April requesting Warsaw to immediately suspend the deployment of its new disciplinary measures against judges (see EUROPE 12484/20).
On 5 June, Commissioner Didier Reynders sent a new letter to the Polish Minister of Justice to this effect, asking the country to indicate by 24 June how it intends to comply fully with the Court’s ruling, Commission spokesman Christian Wigand said on Monday 8 June.
On 8 May, Warsaw had responded to the Court’s order, which, in addition to requiring the immediate suspension of the measures, gave it one month to explain to the Commission how it would proceed. The Commission considered that, in this response, it was not certain that the measures to comply with the decision “will remain in place until the final judgment” of the Court; the spokesperson also noted that in some cases the activities of the Disciplinary Chamber of the Supreme Court continued.
