08/06/2020 (Agence Europe) – The EU’s SURE instrument for temporary Support to mitigate Unemployment Risks in an Emergency could be operational by early or mid-July, according to information gleaned on Monday 8 June. Indeed, not all Member States have yet completed their national approval procedures in order to be able to release the national guarantee necessary to activate the European instrument. Once all the procedures have been completed, the European Commission will be able to proceed simultaneously with the approval of the 27 bilateral guarantee agreements, we are told, enabling the activation of the instrument. As a result, implementation is slightly behind schedule. Originally, the instrument was to be operational from 1 June (see EUROPE 12459/1). (PH)
