08/06/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 8 June, 65 leading Italian and German figures called on the Member States and the European institutions to implement a “zero tolerance policy against tax dumping and money laundering” to finance European recovery. Among their proposals are the introduction of minimum effective corporate taxation, taxation of digital companies, adoption of VAT reforms blocked in the EU Council, protection of progressive income taxation against special regimes such as ‘golden visas’, and strengthening the fight against money laundering. The appeal was launched by MEP Sven Giegold (Greens/EFA, Germany) and signed by many economics professors. The proposals were to be discussed in greater depth on Monday evening in a webinar in the presence of the European Commissioner for Taxation, Paolo Gentiloni, who welcomed this “interesting” initiative both in terms of its content and the nature of the personalities who signed it.
