08/06/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Sunday 7 June, as reported by AFP, in an interview with Die Welt, European Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson announced that the European Commission is to unveil a series of measures to combat child sexual abuse after demand for illegal content on the Internet involving minors rose sharply during the pandemic. “Since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, demand for content showing sexual abuse of children has increased by 30% in some Member States”, she said. The new plan envisages the creation of a new EU centre to help countries “investigate, prevent and combat sexual abuse of children” and it will be presented “soon”. It is possible that the Commissioner could specify the dates on Tuesday 9 June at an event on the subject. (SP)
