Council gives green light to 'mobility package I'

07/04/2020 (Agence Europe)On Tuesday 7 April, the Council adopted by written procedure the “mobility package I”. The package includes a directive on the posting of lorry drivers and two regulations: one governing access to the road haulage market, the other on rest and driving times and the installation of tachographs. The Committee of Permanent Representatives (Coreper) of the Council had approved, in December 2019 (see EUROPE 12395/7), the provisional agreement reached between the European Parliament and the Council of the EU. This political agreement was first approved by the Council in February (see EUROPE 12430/24). It is now up to Parliament to decide. A first vote will take place, according to a provisional timetable, in June in the Transport Committee (TRAN) and then in July in plenary session. Both regulations will come into force 20 days after their publication and the Directive on the day following its publication. (AC)
