20/02/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday, 20 February, the Member States’ education ministers formally approved the agreement between the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union on the social and market aspects of Mobility Package I (posting of lorry drivers, driving and resting times, tachographs, cabotage, and market access). Although this was only a formality—the text having already been validated on 20 December by the Member States’ permanent representatives (Coreper) (see EUROPE 12395/7)—the nine countries opposed to the agreement took the opportunity to reiterate their criticism (see EUROPE 12428/30 and 12376/13). While the agreement still has to be confirmed during the European Parliament’s plenary session, the European Commission is currently conducting impact studies to assess its compliance with the Green Deal. The latter has, in fact, expressed reservations on several occasions (see EUROPE 12425/2). (DG)
