20/02/2020 (Agence Europe) – In a declaration adopted on Wednesday 19 February in Stockholm, more than 80 countries pledged to reduce the number of road traffic deaths by 50% by 2030, thus extending the similar target set by the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by ten years. The European Commission welcomed the declaration, which “paves the way for further global political commitment to road safety”. “This target is a stepping-stone for the EU to reach its ambitious goal of no deaths and serious injuries on European roads by 2050 [’Vision Zero’] . I appeal to the rest of the world to join us in our ambition”, said Transport Commissioner Adina-Ioana Vălean. In the context of ‘Vision Zero’, the EU had already committed itself to reducing the number of people killed and seriously injured on the roads by 50% by 2030.
