20/02/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 20 February, the European Commission launched a public consultation on the review of the Non-Financial Reporting Directive. The aim of the review, which was announced as part of the Commission’s European Green Deal (see EUROPE 12388/7), is to increase companies’ disclosure of climate and environmental data. “As things stand today, there is currently a sustainability reporting gap that is hampering progress towards a sustainable financial system. The needs of investors for corporate sustainability information are growing faster than any improvements in company reporting. So we welcome all views on how best to improve this Directive”, Vice-President Valdis Dombrovskis said in a statement.
