European Parliament committee approves EU/Cape Verde agreement

20/02/2020 (Agence Europe)On Wednesday 19 February, the European Parliament Committee on Fisheries recommended approving the new fisheries agreement between the EU and Cape Verde. The Protocol provides for fishing opportunities in the following categories: 28 freezer tuna seiners, 27 surface longliners and 14 pole-and-line tuna vessels. The annual financial contribution from the European Union is €750,000, based on: - a reference tonnage of 8,000 tonnes per year, for which an annual amount linked to access has been fixed at €400,000 per year for the entire duration of the Protocol; - support for the development of the sectoral fisheries policy and the blue economy of Cabo Verde for an amount of €350,000 per year for the entire duration of the Protocol. The agreement still needs to be approved in the European Parliament plenary. (LC)
