20/02/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 19 February, Josep Borrell, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, phoned Afghan President Ashraf Ghani to congratulate him on his re-election, following the announcement the previous day of the final results of the 28 September election. In its statement, the European External Action Service said that “the EU is looking forward to continuing its work with the new administration led by President Ghani”, adding that Borrell welcomed Ghani's commitment to forming an inclusive government to represent all of the Afghan people. The High Representative stressed that “the priority from now on will be to ensure unity in support of an inclusive peace process”, adding that the EU was ready to support this process, which represents a “great opportunity”.
