G20 energy ministers to meet via videoconference on April 10

07/04/2020 (Agence Europe)An extraordinary meeting of the energy ministers of the G20 countries, hosted by Saudi Arabia, is expected to be held on Friday 10 April around noon, by videoconference, in order to “ ensure energy market stability”, according to a report published by Reuters news agency on Tuesday 7 April. This discussion will be preceded by a virtual OPEC+ meeting, originally scheduled for last Monday, but postponed to Thursday, with the aim of reaching agreement on a reduction in oil production. The price of a barrel of oil has plummeted in recent weeks, falling to its lowest level in 17 years on Monday 30 March due to a sharp drop in demand caused by the coronavirus pandemic and the failure of previous negotiations between OPEC, led by Riyadh, and Russia (see EUROPE 12461/32).
