07/04/2020 (Agence Europe) – An extraordinary meeting of the energy ministers of the G20 countries, hosted by Saudi Arabia, is expected to be held on Friday 10 April around noon, by videoconference, in order to “ ensure energy market stability”, according to a report published by Reuters news agency on Tuesday 7 April. This discussion will be preceded by a virtual OPEC+ meeting, originally scheduled for last Monday, but postponed to Thursday, with the aim of reaching agreement on a reduction in oil production. The price of a barrel of oil has plummeted in recent weeks, falling to its lowest level in 17 years on Monday 30 March due to a sharp drop in demand caused by the coronavirus pandemic and the failure of previous negotiations between OPEC, led by Riyadh, and Russia (see EUROPE 12461/32).
