Committee activities (all committee meetings are held by videoconference): - CULT: debate with Commissioners Gabriel and Breton on the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the culture, education and media sector. IMCO: discussion with Commission Executive Vice-President Margrethe Vestager on the digital transformation of the economy to stimulate recovery from the Covid-19 crisis; discussion of reports on digital services legislation to improve the internal market (rapp. A. Saliba) and the adaptation of commercial and civil law rules for entities operating online (rapp. Charanzova). - BUDG: presentation of the draft opinion on the establishment of the Just Transition Fund (rapp. Siegfried Mureșan), votes of reports on: a safety net to protect beneficiaries of EU programmes: establishment of a contingency plan for the MFF (rapp. J. Olbricht and M. Marques). - ENVI: debates on the recommendations on negotiations for a new relationship with the United Kingdom (rapp. P. Canfin - and vote), the establishment of a Just Transition Fund (rapp. A. Vondra); votes on: minimum requirements for water reuse (rapp. S. Bonafé); exchange of views with the Director of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) (update on the Covid-19 situation).

Tuesday 5 May

  • Brussels. Council of the EU. Videoconference of Employment and Social Affairs Ministers. - Demographic issues in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic and beyond (the debate will feed into the finalisation of the Commission’s report on the impact of demographic change). - Measures taken by individual Member States to mitigate the impact of the crisis on the labour market and the economy. - Discussion on exit and recovery measures taken at national and European level.
  • Brussels. Council of the EU. Videoconference of Telecommunications Ministers. - Exchange of views on the use of tracing applications and electronic communication data in the fight against Covid-19. - Debate on the role of the digital sector in post-Covid-19 recovery, including measures to encourage investment in the deployment of new very high capacity digital infrastructure.
  • Brussels. Council of the EU. Preparatory Proceedings: Special Committee on Agriculture.

Wednesday 6 May

  • Brussels. European Council. Videoconference of EU and Western Balkans leaders. -Discussions on EU/Balkan cooperation. - EU assistance to Balkan countries in the Covid-19 period and beyond. - Cooperation between the EU and the region.

Weekly meeting of the College of Commissioners (videoconference). - Anti-money laundering action plan and methodology for developing the ‘black list’ of high-risk jurisdictions (Dombrovskis). - Fair minimum wage for workers in the EU (launch of 2nd stage consultation) (Dombrovskis). - Updated Skills Agenda for Europe (Schinas). - Proposal for an EU Council Recommendation on vocational education and training (Schinas).

Thursday 7 May

European Parliament. - LIBE: launch of automatic exchange of fingerprint data in the United Kingdom (to be confirmed); discussion with Commissioner Johansson on Home Affairs issues during Covid-19, including Schengen, asylum and migration and security issues; exchange of views with the Supervisor on data protection; use of personal data in the fight against Covid-19; recommendations for negotiations on a new relationship with the United Kingdom. - ECON: exchange of views with the Vice-President of the European Central Bank, Luis de Guindos, on the bank’s 2020 annual report; votes on the reports on providers of crowdfunding services for enterprises (rapp. Eugen Jurzyca) and on financial instruments markets (rapp. Caroline Nagtegaal). - CONT: report on the Committee’s mission to the Czech Republic); votes on the EIB’s financial activities in 2018 (rapp. B. Eickhout) and on the 2018 annual report on the fight against fraud in the EU (rapp. J. Kuhs). - AFET: debriefing of Commissioner Olivér Várhelyi on the EU/Western Balkans Summit. - EMPL:  exchange of views with Christa Sedltaschek (Executive Director of EU-OSHA) and Juan Menéndez-Valdés (Executive Director of Eurofound).
  • Luxembourg. * Court of Justice of the European Union. #Judgments: C-641/18 (Rina - Can private individuals, victims of a shipwreck, bring proceedings in Italy against the Italian authorities which certified the vessel flying the flag of a non-Member State despite the invocation by those authorities of compensation from the courts?) #Conclusions: - C-594/18 P (Austria v Commission - whether Austria’s action against the Commission’s decision to approve the aid measures granted by the United Kingdom for the construction of the Hinkley Point C nuclear power station is to be upheld?) - C-132/19 P (Groupe Canal + v Commission - whether commitments given by a company to the Commission in the context of a cartel procedure are enforceable against a third party which is a contracting party of that company?)

Friday 8 May
