30/04/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 29 April, the European Commission's Directorate-General for Taxation tweeted that “in the summer, we will propose a tax package: three initiatives building on the EU Commission’s fair tax agenda to help EU countries and businesses to overcome the Coronavirus crisis”. It is understood that this will include its action plan on combating tax fraud, which, according to a provisional timetable (see EUROPE 12440/20), is currently scheduled for 10 June, measures to improve administrative cooperation with regard to taxation and simplify specific rules, and a communication on good governance in tax matters. Earlier this week, Paolo Gentiloni, the EU Commissioner for Taxation, assured MEPs that the Commission was ready to step up its efforts to tackle tax evasion (see EUROPE 12475/3) at a time when public spending is on the rise across the EU.
