Monday 25 February

  • Sharm el Sheikh (ET). Council of the European Union. EU/Arab League Summit (24-25/02). Meeting co-chaired by Mr Tusk and Mr Al Sissi. Objective: Strengthening the links between the two parties. Main topics covered: multilateralism, trade and investment, migration changes, security, situation in the region (Israel-Palestine situation, Syria, Libya, Yemen).
  • Brussels. European Parliament. Committee activities (as at 28/02) - LIBE: exchange of views with Detlef Schröder, Director of CEPOL, on the training and education of law enforcement officers in Europe; fourth meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Scrutiny Group (JPSG) on 24 and 25 February in Bucharest.

Tuesday 26 February

  • Brussels. European Parliament. Committee activities - JURI: vote on the provisional interinstitutional agreement on copyright in the digital single market - ECON: hearing of candidates for the posts of member of the Executive Board of the European Central Bank (Philip Lane), Director of the European Banking Authority (José Manuel Campa) and member of the Single Resolution Council (Sebastiano Laviola) - LIBE: Implementation of the GDPR with particular emphasis on the role and means of the DPAs; exchange of views with Andrea Jelinek, President of the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) and Willem Debeuckelaere, President of the Belgian Data Protection Authority and Vice-President of the EDPS and Emmanuel Crabit (European Commission) - LIBE-BUDG: Appointment of the European Prosecutor - Hearing of the candidates pre-selected by the jury - BUDG: examination of the amendments to the draft guidelines on the EU 2020 budget, (rapporteur Monika Hohlmeier).
  • Luxembourg. * Court of Justice of the EU. #Ruling: - C-497/17 (Assistance work for slaughter animals - can halal meat packaging be labelled "organic farming"?). - Cases C-202/18 (Rimšēvičs/Latvia) and C-238/18 (ECB/Latvia - has Latvia fulfilled its obligations by suspending the Governor of the Bank of Latvia from his duties? #Conclusions: - C-129/18 (SM - can a child placed under guardianship under the kafala regime with a Union national be considered as a direct descendant of the latter?) * General Court of the European Union: #Ruling: - Cases T-679/16 (Athletic Club v Commission) and T865/16 (Fùtbol Club Barcelona v Commission - Application for annulment of the Commission's decisions ordering Spain to recover illegal State aid from the two teams concerned).

Wednesday 27 February

  • Brussels. European Commission. Weekly meeting of the College of Commissioners - Winter package of the "European Semester" (Dombrovskis).
  • Brussels. Council of the European Union. Coreper I and II.
  • Brussels. European Parliament. Committee activities - ENVI: vote on the Interinstitutional Interim Agreement on the rules for the reduction of CO2 emissions from heavy vehicles - TAXE3: vote on the final report of the committee - DEVE-ENVI: vote on the annual strategic report on the implementation and achievement of sustainable development objectives (SDO) - FEMM: hearing on the work and social situation of women in the EU.
  • Luxembourg. * Court of Justice of the EU. #Ruling: C-563/17 (Associação Peço a Palavra and Others - conformity with Union law of the procedure for the reprivatisation of an air transport company belonging to the state-owned enterprise sector).

Thursday 28 February

  • Luxembourg. * Court of Justice of the EU. #Conclusions: - C-100/18 (Línea Directa Aseguradora - does the burning of a vehicle parked in a private car park, caused by causes specific to the vehicle without the intervention of third parties, constitute a traffic incident covered by the compulsory insurance of the vehicle owner? - C-723/17 (Craeynest and others - what is the method to be used by Member States concerning sampling points to determine whether the limit values for pollutants in the air (nitrogen dioxide) have been exceeded? - C-649/17 (Does Amazon EU - Is Amazon required to make a telephone number available to its customers on its website? - C-622/17 (Baltic Media Alliance - compliance under EU law with the obligation, adopted by the Member State of reception of a television channel from another Member State, for operators providing channel packages to consumers in the first State to broadcast or retransmit the channel in question only in pay-TV packages or for an additional charge).
