EU announces more than €30 million in additional funding for energy efficiency and climate change mitigation

22/02/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 21 February, Johannes Hahn, European Commissioner for Enlargement Negotiations, approved a new financial package of €30 million to complement the €50 million regional energy efficiency programme in the Western Balkans. He also announced an additional €2 million in support through a regional programme dedicated to climate change. The purpose of these funds is to strengthen the commitment of the Western Balkan countries to align themselves as soon as possible with the EU's energy and climate policies. Speaking to the press in Podgorica, Montenegro, the Commissioner explained that it was urgent to develop sustainable development systems by taking advantage of the region's solar and wind potential. He also urged the integration of the electricity market in the Western Balkans region and with the EU market. (CG)
