Italian Five Star Movement (M5S) MEP Marco Zullo outlined on Friday 22 February the ten concrete actions in the manifesto that the M5S will champion during the European elections at the end of May.
The manifesto aims to put the citizen and his or her well-being back at the centre of the next legislature’s concerns through the following actions: - a Europe closer to its citizens through "direct democracy" and the reform of the European Citizens' Initiative (see EUROPE 12159); - a Europe neither of the right nor of the left, but at the service of citizens, especially the weakest; - an honest Europe that tackles mafias, organised crime and corruption; - a European project based on cooperation and "respect for diversity between nations"; - the reform of European institutions with a stronger European Parliament; - improving citizens’ quality of life by implementing a gradual programme of disengagement from the use of certain kinds of energy, polluting emissions and pesticides that harm the environment and health; - solidarity in managing the migration challenge, for which "each Member State must assume its own responsibilities"; - a Europe that favours the real economy and reduces the power of financial markets; - the defence of European excellence, through, for example, the protection of products that are 'made in' and support for local agriculture; - investing in the future of young people through new programmes and instruments for "European mobility".
