Commission to authorise two new Monsanto genetically modified varieties of maize

Brussels, 24/10/2005 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission is expected to authorise the marketing of two genetically modified varieties of maize produced by US company Monsanto, MON 863 and GA 21 for human consumption. As expected, the EU's farm ministers in Luxembourg on Monday, did not reach a qualified majority either for or against the planned authorisation of the two GMOs (see Europe 9054).
