Commission releases €4 million to fund immediate needs of returnees (political prisoners and former combatants)

Brussels, 09/09/2005 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission announced on Friday that it will be providing €4 million under its Rapid Reaction Mechanism to help re-integrate into civilian life former political prisoners and fighters in the long-running conflict in Aceh. The move follows the signature on 15 August 2005 of a peace agreement, in the form of a Memorandum of Understanding, between the Government of Indonesia and the Free Aceh Movement (GAM), which it is hoped signals the end...
