Brussels, 14/06/2005 (Agence Europe) - Onto June, the European Commission adopted a decision instituting a two-year "specific follow-up program" on reconstitution measures for cod stocks in the zones of Kattegat, Skagerrak, the North Sea, the Western English Channel, the Irish Sea and western Scotland. This programme (the decision is published in the Official Journal L148 of the 11 June 2005) aims to guarantee a good implementation level of control measures for the reconstitution of cod stocks. Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Ireland and the United Kingdom are to establish national control programs responding to very specific rules. They must submit their national control programme together with a timetable laying down all the details on human and material resources and the periods and zones of their deployment. Commission inspectors will then check that these national controls have been correctly carried out.
