29/11/2004 (Agence Europe) - Forza Italia MEP Mario Mantovani has issued a press release asking how Romano Prodi was able to leave the Commission "with an act so serious, contradictory and against employment law" as making 43 foreign language teachers redundant from posts they have held for around thirty years. After a meeting of the Committee on Social Affairs of the European Parliament, to which a delegation of these teachers was invited, Mr Mantovani noted: "Prodi cannot speak with pride about permanent training (…) and then contradict these principles". The average age of the teachers laid off was 54 years, which, the MEP adds, will make it hard for them to find alternative employment.
