29/11/2004 (Agence Europe) - The European Consumers' Organisations (BEUC) has stated in a press release that the REACH legislation means not only extra costs for the chemical industry, but also "the production of the safest possible consumer goods". The results of our test on deodorants were "quite shocking", said BEUC, noting that these products "release a large quantity of chemical substances into the air". According to BEUC, REACH should: take on board the fact that consumers "are in contact with chemical substances from a wide range of sources"; -give priority to chemicals which "appear to be the most dangerous, rather than the quantities in which they are produced".
