Debate on aid to northern Cyprus is postponed till September - Nicosia remains opposed to direct trade with EU but announces further facilities for trade between north and south of island

Brussels, 27/07/2004 (Agence Europe) - Given persistent opposition from Cyprus, Coreper last week decided to postpone till September continuation of the debate on the recent European Commission proposal aimed at establishing direct trade relations between the northern part of the island and the European Union. Adoption of the two other Commission proposals, which the Cypriot government does not object to but which have hitherto been part of a package with the third, has also been deferred....
