Austrian group OMV has taken over 33% of the capital of the Romanian national company PETROM 'profits of EUR 2 bn in 2003) for EUR 669 million and intends to increase its stake to 51% with an increase in capital. PETROM's oil and gas reserves are estimated at a billion barrels in oil equivalents (boe) with a daily production of 220,000 boe.
