Luxembourg, 27/07/2004 (Agence Europe) - According to a first estimate published on 22 July by Eurostat, the euro zone made an external trade surplus of EUR 7.3 billion with the rest of the world in May 2004, as compared to a 4.5 billion surplus in May 2003. The balance registered in April 2004 was +7.0 billion, compared to +2.7 billion in April 2003. In May 2004, seasonally adjusted export and import figures fell by 0.8% compared to April 2004. The first estimates of the extra-European Union (EU25) trade balance for the month of May 2004 show a deficit of EUR 3.9 billion compared to -5.4 billion in May 2003. For April 2004, the balance was -7.1 billion compared to -4.0 billion in April 2003. In May 2004, EU25 exports after seasonal adjustments remained almost stable compared to April 2004 when imports fell 2.9%.
