ECONOMIC INTERPENETRATION / (eu) banking

The British bank ABBEY NATIONAL annual turn-over for 2003 EUR 10.652 bn with assets of EUR 268.2 bn, 2,6000 workers and 17.8 million customers) has accepted the take-over offer made its Spanish counterpart SCH - SANTANDER CENTRAL HISPANO (turn-over EUR 26.108 bn with assets of 351.8 bn in 2003, a workforce of 103000 and 41 million customers), a deal that will create the tenth biggest bank in the world and the largest in the Euro zone in terms of stock market capitalisation (EUR 51 bn). British shareholders will receive a SCH share for each of their ABBEY NATIONAL shares, and a one-time dividend of 31 pence per share. According to it's the current rat of shares, ABBEY NATIONAL, is valued at between £ 8.2 bn and 8.9 bn.
