Jacques Barrot says cohesion policy will have strong impact on regions' competitiveness and citizens' standards of living

Brussels, 23/06/2004 (Agence Europe) - Less than two months after enlargement, the European Commission on Wednesday approved the economic and social development programmes in favour of each of the new Member States, under the Structural Funds (see yesterday's EUROPE, p.11). The new development programmes, including the cohesion fund, provide for the Union's contribution of over 24 billion EUR between 2004 and 2006.
