Electoral system: party list system; proportional representation under the d'Hondt system
« Força Portugal » - joint PPD - PSD list (which is part of the EPP-ED group) and the CDS - PP (which is part of the UEN): la the list for the right is headed by former foreign affairs minister Joao de Deus Pinheiro who was a Commissioner for development under the Santer Commission. Partido Socialista: The Socialist list was headed by former Finance Minister Antonio Sousa Franco, who also served as President of the Court of Auditors and Governor of the Bank of Portugal. Antonio Sousa Franco died on 9 June just before the elections. The list is now as follows: - former Justice Minister Antonio Costa; - Ana Gomes mainly known for the role she played in support of East Timor's independence; - national deputy Francisco Assis (39), who is also a member of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly; - the former Environment Minister Elisa Ferreira (49), economist; - outgoing Paulo Casaca (47), economist; - outgoing Sergio Sousa Pino (32), lawyer; - national deputy Fausto Correia; - national deputy Edite Estrela (54); - former Agriculture Minister Luis Manuel Capoulas Santos (53); - national deputy Jamila Madeira (29), Secretary General for the Young Socialists; and - outgoing Manuel dos Santos (60), economist.
