Electoral system: party list system with preferential vote; proportional representation
Italy is divided into 5 constituencies:
I - NORTH WEST ITALY (20 seats)
Forza Italia: the party of the president of the Council has chosen the Head of government Silvio Berlusconi (68 ) to lead the lists in all the constituencies. Followed by - the Mayor of Milan Gabriele Albertini (54 ); - outgoing vice-president of the EP, Guido Podestà (57 ); - outgoing delegate Francesco Fiori (51 ); Jas Gawronski also outgoing (68 ) and who entered the EP for the 1981; - Mario Mantovani outgoing (54 ); - Mario Mauro outgoing (43 ); - Roberto Berutti; - Anna Bonfrisco.
Unione Democratici dei Cristiani e dei Democratici di Centro (UDC): - the secretary of the UDC and MP Giuseppe Marco Follini who was also a member of the European Convention; - Terenzio Delfino; - MP Bruno Tabacci.
Alleanza Popolare - Unione Democratici Europei (AP-UDEUR): - national MP Lorenzo Acquarone; - senator Nicodemo Filippelli (58 ), Lecturer in philosophy; - Domenico Galbiati GP.
Partito Pensionati: the list of the Pensioners Party is led by Carlo Fatuzzo (60 ) who came to prominence during the legislature with his innumerable explanations of votes; - Lino Miserotti, leader of the national organisation; - Giuseppe Italia; - regional councillor for Frioul Luigi Ferone, former police officer. This list is very much the same in all the regions.

Società civile Di Pietro - Occhetto: this list is still headed by two main protagonists: Antonio Di Pietro (53 ) MEP outgoing and former state prosecutor and former minister and senator Achille Occhetto, member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (68 ), former president of the Communist Party and former MEP between 1989 and 1999. Alleanza Nazionale (AN): the lists are led by vice-prime minister Gianfranco Fini (52 ) who was also a very active member of the European Convention. Lista Bonino: the radicals are submitting lists that are very much the same throughout, with Emma Bonino (56 ) outgoing MEP from 1979 and former European Commissioner, Maurizio Turco (44 ), Marco Pannella (74 ) also entered the EP for the first time in 1979, Marco Cappato (33 ) and Benedetto Della Vedova (42 ). Followed by: - Rita Bernardini (51 ); - the director of Radio Radicale Massimo Bordin (53 ); - Sergio D'Elia (52 ).
Lega Nord (LN): the list is headed by current minister for institutional reforms Umberto Bossi. Also included: - Francesco Speroni (57 ) outgoing; Mario Borghezio (56 ) outgoing; - Roberto Anelli.

Abolizione Scorporo Verdi Verdi (ASVV): another ecology list headed by Alessandro Lupi (33 ).
Alleanza Lombarda Autonomia: the list is headed by Senator Elidio de Paoli (56 ).
Union Valdotaine (UV): - the Mayor of Aoste Guido Grimod (53 ).
