17/03/2004 (Agence Europe) - Latvian MP Youri Sokolovski (opposition left-wing group "For Human Rights in United Latvia" told ITAR-TASS that Russian should become one of the official languages of the enlarged European Union. The MP said: "We wish to defend the languages of all ethnic minorities in Europe, such as Catalan, Welsh and Russian". ITAR-TASS notes that Latvia is spoken by just one million people, whereas after enlargement, it will be the official mother tongue of over 6 million...
