11/03/2004 (Agence Europe) - Michael Frendo, head of the delegation of Maltese observers to the EPP-ED group of the European Parliament, points out that it is not entirely correct to state that there are no women on the Maltese lists for June's European elections (as we stated in EUROPE of 9 March, p.15). Mr Frendo states: The Malta Labour Party has closed its lists, which has no women on them, but the Partit Nazzjonalista (his party) is still finalising its lists, and leader Lawrence Gonzi has on many occasions stressed the importance of boosting the role of women in Maltese society. According to Mr Frendo, it is therefore likely that there will be female Maltese candidates for the European elections.
