Brussels, 11/03/2004 (Agence Europe) - Seasonally adjusted production in the construction sector increased by 0.3% in the euro-zone and by 0.9% in the EU15 in the fourth quarter of 2003, compared to the third quarter of 2003, Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, estimates on Wednesday. Among the Member States for which data are available for the fourth quarter of 2003, the most significant increases for total construction were recorded in Luxembourg (+9.0%), Denmark (+4.7%), the United Kingdom (+1.5%) and Germany (+1.2%). Decreases were observed only in Portugal (-6.9%), Belgium (-2.7%) and Spain (-0.3%), while production remained stable in the Netherlands. Eurostat pointed out that building construction fell by 0.1% in the euro-zone but increased by 0.5% in the EU15 As compared to the fourth quarter of 2002, output in the fourth quarter of 2003 grew by 0.4% in the euro-zone and by 1.9% in the EU15.
