11/03/2004 (Agence Europe) - According to a survey by the Dahaf institute, which was published by the Representation of the European Commission in Israel, 85% of Israelis are in favour of their country applying to join the EU, for essentially economic reasons (60% are in favour, 25% "tend" to be). However, 64% of respondents think the EU's attitude to Israel is "anti-Semitism dressed up as moral principles". Giancarlo Chevallard, the Commission's representative to Tel Aviv, denied that the EU was "fundamentally biased against Israel", and pointed out that Israel's possible accession to the EU was not of topicality.
