Germany expected to state at 9 March Ecofin Council that it favours a reduction in VAT on eating out in France - First debate on subsidiarity for reduced VAT

Brussels, 05/03/2004 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday, the Ecofin Council will examine the European Commission's document on application of subsidiarity for reduced rates of VAT. France is hoping that Germany will confirm its support for a cut in VAT on eating out in France post-2006, announced after the 19 February meeting between Blair, Chirac and Schröder. No decisions are expected at this stage.
