EU and Switzerland agree with principle on postponing free movement of new Member State nationals, but not on implementation

Brussels, 20/02/2004 (Agence Europe) - Negotiations on extending the EU-Switzerland agreement on the free movement of nationals of the ten new Member States are making progress, but key points have still to be settled. During the negotiating session held on Friday in Brussels, both delegations agreed on the principle of granting Switzerland the right to impose a transitional period of up to seven years, as current Member States will also be doing for the new Member States.
