26/11/2003 (Agence Europe) - By adopting the report of the CDU MEP Renate Sommer on the interoperability of the motorway electronic pricing toll systems, the EP transport committee has followed the line of its rapporteur, who quite clearly rejects the European Commission proposal to make the new German technique compulsory at a European level. Ms Sommer explained in a press statement, "a technique that, de facto, does not yet exist, cannot be imposed as the best of the bunch!" She noted that such an admission was particularly disagreement for a German MEP. The responsibility for the problems have delayed the introduction of the toll for certain motorways in Germany and illustrate, however, the clumsiness of the German government in this negotiation rather than the technique. Ms Sommer considered that even the non-initiated would have only known one technique that is, "completely new, complicated and constitutes different components that won't even be ready to use until eleven months afterwards". Despite these problems, Ms Sommer is convinced that the satellite based system has a great future.
