Accession countries continue to attract direct investment from abroad

Brussels, 03/10/2003 (Agence Europe) - According to Eurostat, direct investment from abroad (DIA) in accession countries stood at EUR 18.8 bn in 2001, a 17% fall on the previous year. But investment stocks continue to mark up sustained growth. From EUR 28.8 bn in 1997, they reached EUR 78.3 bn in 2000 - an average annual increase of 44% as opposed to 36% in the European Union for the same period.
