Commission adopts proposals on including biometric identifiers in visas and residence permits for third-country nationals

Brussels, 24/09/2003 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission on Wednesday adopted two proposals with a view to modifying regulation (EC) 1030/2002 establishing a uniform format for residence documents for third-country nationals, and regulation (EC) 1683/95 establishing a model visa format. Both of these regulations constitute only the legal basis, allowing Member States to store biometric data on the model visa and the uniform format for residence permits for third-country nationals.
