Frits Bolkestein confirms Commission will "soon" present its communication on safety of bank cards

Brussels, 17/09/2003 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission is "soon" to present a discussion paper on the legal framework for methods of payment in the European Union, it was confirmed by Commissioner Frits Bolkestein during a conference this week. An essential theme, given that, "in 2001, some 207 million in electronic transactions were made each working day in the European Union - which makes an average of 138 transactions annually per capita", the Commissioner stressed.
