Jean Glavany reacts to Commission's fines on agriculture associations over illegal price-fixing for beef

Brussels, 10/04/2003 (Agence Europe) - Former French farming minister Jean Glavany has reacted to the European Commission's accusations concerning its fining of FNSEA and five other agricultural syndicates for illegal price-fixing of beef in 2001 (see Europe of 3 April 2003, p.11). In a letter to Commissioner Mario Monti (published on Tuesday), Glavany says that a Commission official alleges he encouraged the associations to agree on a minimum purchase price and not import beef.
