Commission wants to "learn lessons" from Ahold scandal in its proposals on enterprise governance and financial transparency - Frits Bolkestein brings up Sarbanes-Oxley law in USA

Brussels, 26/02/2003 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission will attentively examine the new financial scandal affecting Dutch distribution giant, Ahold. Jonathan Todd, spokesman for Commissioner for financial services, Frits Bolkestein, declared that if there were lessons to be drawn, then they would do so. The spokesman did, however, say that it was "to early to draw conclusions". He also pointed out that the European Commission would, in this context, soon be presenting an action plan...
