Restricting use of red colouring additive for salmon on fish farms, egg yolks and poultry

Brussels, 28/01/2003 (Agence Europe) - On Monday the European Commission adopted a proposal for reducing as from 1 December, the authorised use of canthaxanthin in animal feed. Scientific studies have demonstrated that this additive used as a red colouring for salmon on fish farms, egg yolks and poultry products, can provoke an accumulation of pigments in the retina and therefore affect the eyesight of consumers.
