Prodi raises problem of staff required for enlargement and of Commission's right of own initiative in context of preparation for Council's future multiannual programme, and insists on economic coordination

Brussels, 09/09/2002 (Agence Europe) - Romano Prodi has reaffirmed the all-important place that enlargement should hold in the EU's political agenda over the next few months. He entered into teleconference communication this weekend with the Italian Catholic organisation, Acli, meeting in Vallombrosa. "Europe will soon be breathing with the East as well as West lung, and will be adopting the Slav culture as well as the Latin, German and Anglo-Saxon cultures".
